What to Bring to Your Engagement Session

One of my most frequently asked questions when planning an engagement photo shoot, is 'what should I bring?'. I wanted to take a moment to answer that question to the best of my ability, even though the answer truly changes depending on the situation. All engagement sessions, and all couples, are different. Here are a few ideas to help inspire you while you are preparing what to bring to your own shoot.

The real answer is nothing- you really don't have to bring anything with you to have an amazing engagement photo shoot. The two of you and your amazing connection are truly what will make your photos magical. That being said, there are opportunities to include things in the engagement session to make it just a little  more 'you', and that's really what it's all about.

If you have a unique thing that you want to include in your engagement session- bring it. I once had a couple bring old shirts from the pizza place where they first met while working together. Another Disney-loving couple brought their bride & groom Mickey-ear hats. Only you will know what item like this might work for your shoot.

There are a few items to bring that may come in handy- like having a blanket to for sitting together if you are having your session on the beach(especially during the winter!).  Or bringing a pair of comfortable shoes if you will be walking around the location a lot during your photo session. If you aren't sure if you should bring an item like this, ask your photographer for advice. Take advantage of their previous experience at similar locations while preparing for your own.

Sometimes it's better that you don't bring anything with you at all. You may be moving around the location a whole lot, or if you simply wouldn't have enough time to incorporate all your ideas-- check with you photographer beforehand. Always keep them in the loop with the things you plan to bring with you and incorporate into your shoot, so that they can plan everything accordingly.
