Tips for Wearing a Cathedral Veil

Did you know how uncomfortable it is to wear a cathedral veil on your wedding day? It’s so beautiful (and great for photos!!), I don’t want to deter anyone from choosing one, but there are definitely some tricks to wearing it that make it quite a bit easier to manage. Here are a few tips from a Dayton wedding photographer to help you comfortably wear a cathedral veil on your wedding day.

- Make sure it is very securely fastened. This type of veil gets caught in the wind- it’s gorgeous and makes for brilliant photos, but you def don’t want it to rip out of your hair and fly away!

-If someone goes to put their arm around you for a hug or a photo, ask them to put their arm under the veil, it pulls less on your head and will prevent headaches. I usually announce this to family members before starting family formal photos after the ceremony.

-Carry it looped over your elbow while casually walking. That way no one steps on it, jerking your head back. If your walking for an epic photo or something, just let it flow behind you!

Bonus tip: It’s ok to take it off. Like really. Just get a few photos with it and then ditch it, Almost no one makes it the entire day with a long veil on their head. I’ve seen them literally rip in half from people accidentally stepping and pulling on it. It’s ok to be over it. And if you know in advance that you want to wear it but will struggle with the discomfort, schedule a first look. That way you can get portraits in it before the ceremony and then you can remove it before the family group photos when people tend to step and pull on it the most.
