If you are planning ahead for your fall engagement session, this post is for you. Here are a few quick tips to help you get the most out of your autumn engagement photo session.

  • In Ohio, fall color tends to be at its peak in mid-October, so ask your photographer to schedule well in advance in you are hoping to have lots of color in your images.

  • Choose an area with lots of trees- it really only takes one good tree to get good fall color in the background of your images and every tree changes at a slightly different time.

  • Think beyond trees- grassy fields also provide beautiful fall color that looks great!

  • I always erccomend wearing neutral wardrobe. Not only does this create a timeless look, it also really lets the scenery stand out!

  • If you are self-conscious about having your photo taken in a crowded space, opt for a sunrise session. Waking up early will be well worth the empty space. Fall is the most popular season for all types of photography and almost every location is crowded around sunset!

I hope this helps! The images below were taken at Cox Arboretum Metropark in the fall. A permit is required to have your photographs taken there. Ask your photographer if they already have a permit- I purchase their annual option since I am at their parks so frequently. It’s likely your photographer already has one too.
