Winter photo sessions don’t have to be out in the cold, even when you live in Ohio. Here are some ideas to bring your engagement photo session inside, where it is nice and warm. Your toes will thank you.

Rent a studio space. There are benefits to renting a studio space, aside from the fact that it’s indoors and warm. You also usually get to use any vintage furniture that is there to get a styled look for your photos. If the studio you’re renting doesn’t supply any props, you can always bring them in from a vintage rental company. To take the styling one step further, it’s a fun idea and bring a bouquet or wear a flower crown to this type of engagement session. Your photos will look like they came directly out of a magazine.

Go to your favorite hangout spot. This makes for a lifestyle engagement session that is fun and relaxed. Whether you stop by your favorite coffee shop, bar or book store this is a great option for some indoor photos that tell the story of what you enjoy doing together as a couple. You could literally have your engagement photos taken while you are on a date with the love of your life. It’s the best.

Choose a museum. Not only is this warm and indoors, it’s also a unique background for photos. The museum you choose will have a huge impact on the look of your photos, so I recommend choosing one that really resonates with your personalities. Some museums charge extra fees or require scheduling in advance. Check their website or give them a call to see if it’s a good fit for what you are looking for before you plan everything out.

Stay at home. Taking photos in your home can be a meaningful and comfortable experience. This is also a great option for those who aren’t excited about the idea of taking photos in a public place. If you like to cook together, maybe take some photos cooking or having a drink together in your kitchen. Cuddle up on your favorite couch if you love to watch movies or read together. The photos you get from an in-home photo session will tell a story that is totally you.

There are so many great ways to get in out of the cold during your engagement session. It’s always a great idea to call your desired indoor location ahead of time and fill them in, just to make sure its ok to take photos inside their space. You can also use a combination of indoor and outdoor spots to get a variety or looks if you don’t want to just be inside. Whether you find the perfect indoor location or you just stop midway for some coffee and a warm-up, relax and enjoy the experience of having your engagement photos taken. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience that you get to have with your future spouse.

And of course- if you are still looking for a photographer, send me a quick message to schedule your engagement session! I would love to help you find the perfect location for your indoor (or outdoor) photos.
